From 3 Friends to 50+ Angels
What started as a simple act of kindness has grown into a movement that feeds thousands across Hampshire.
In March 2020, prompted by a report in The Daily Echo about looming food bank shortages due to COVID-19, three like-minded friends decided to make private donations. Their initial plan quickly evolved as they reached out to other members of the local community, resulting in 26 weeks of “shop and drop” donations across Eastleigh, Southampton, North Baddesley, Romsey, and beyond, throughout the first lockdown period.
After a brief hiatus, the initiative—originally termed “Round 2.0”—relaunched in April 2023 as Foodbank Angels. Since then, the group has completed over 160 consecutive weeks of shopping and deliveries, never missing a week.
Foodbank Angels have bolstered their weekly donations with annual fundraisers and raffles at community events, supported by local groups. Their sustained progress owes much to the dedication of members who contribute to shopping, drop-offs, fundraising, and outreach, forming the backbone of the organisation.
Generous sponsors, partners and supporters from local businesses and groups have provided steadfast support, helping expand Foodbank Angels' reach and impact.
True to their mission, ‘Feed. Care. Share.’, Foodbank Angels host monthly Free Tea & Coffee mornings for elderly local residents — heartwarming conversations over a cuppa offering warmth, connection, and multicultural enrichment, including events like Saree draping and table games.
Since February 2026, Foodbank Angels has collaborated with Your One Wish Food Bank, a registered charitable organisation based in London, working together on their shared objective to combat food shortages.
Foodbank Angels has now grown into a dynamic and dedicated community of over 50 active members. Collectively, they have raised in excess of £28,000 to provide essential supplies to food banks in Southampton, Eastleigh, Basingstoke, Meon Valley, Romsey, Winchester, and a range of other areas.
They take great pride in the fact that they have never claimed a single penny of expenses or overheads — every penny raised is every penny passed on.
The Journey Continues...
Foodbank Angels plans to expand its reach by hosting more Free Tea & Coffee mornings, strengthening local partnerships, and preparing for its third annual fundraiser. The group is also focusing on improving its digital presence to boost online engagement, making it easier for people to donate, volunteer, and join programs.
